Electro-magnetic radiation from Wifi could be the source of discomfort for students and staff at the University of Baiona. Due to health complaints last week, analysis of air quality has been carried out in the IUT of Baiona. Disconnection of the Wifi system coincided with a sudden decrease in health problems in workers in the administrative offices. This week, classes at the Faculty of Commerce of Baiona have been relocated from the new building to the old campus and an inspection by the technical services and hygiene of the new facilities in Baiona did not lead to a conclusion about the causes of headaches and dizziness for students, and if they are related to air quality. During this week, and the next (week of vacation in Iparralde), air sensors have been installed in offices, in the auditorium and administrative offices of the new university, recently opened a month ago. On Tuesday morning, employees who had felt headaches and adverse symptoms, suddenly felt much better than the day before: no more headaches and breathing difficulties. However, no interventions regarding air quality had been made. The simple installation of air measuring devices could not account for the sudden improvement in health, but it was then discovered that that Wifi system had gone out of operation at the same time that the health problems stopped. WiFi equipment installations in the administrative area, located within meters of offices, in the corridors of the ITU, had been disconnected. If the measurements of air quality yields little evidence, the issue of electro-magnetic radiation and its harmful influence on the so-called electro-hypersensitive people will have to be analyzed. Wifi problems According to the World Health Organization, the electromagnetic hypersensitivity "is characterized by various symptoms that affected people attribute to exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF). These symptoms can include dermatological symptoms (redness, tingling sensation and burning sensations), neurasthenic and vegetative symptoms (fatigue, tiredness, difficulty concentrating, dizziness, nausea, heart palpitations and digestive disorders). This set of symptoms is not part of any recognized syndrome." Since the end of 2007, WiFi and its potential health risks has been debated. Especially in places like public libraries, several employees have complained of problems like headaches and decreased well-being. The four main libraries of Paris have removed Wifi as a precautionary measure. |
