| Virgin Atlantic to allow Mobile calls in-flight | |

Not a single comment in support. VIRGIN Atlantic will be the first British airline to allow mobile phone calls during flights. Passengers will be charged £1 a minute to make or receive calls. They will also be able to use the internet. Phone calls in the air have previously been banned because of the fear that mobiles trying to connect with masts on the ground can interfere with the plane’s controls. But the AeroMobile system used by Virgin lets phones connect to a mini-mast on the plane. Irish airline Ryanair trialled a similar service in 2009, but scrapped it later that year. Virgin Atlantic’s Greg Dawson said: “We listen to what customers want.” The service will initially be on the London to New York route. Twenty planes are due to have AeroMobile this year. British Airways is expected to follow Virgin’s lead. |
