Apparently this area currently has no mobile phone coverage. Can anyone confirm if this area is free of the hum.

Torment,

Try searching for "Birr" here:
http://www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk/search
and try scrolling the map around.
I can't see any mast sites.
Wonder if the people living there realize how lucky they are?

I note that there is a Birr Airport.
That will presumably have Radar?

Thankyou for your replies...and as is mentioned there will be radar...which affects me badly. I tried the site finder and it said no locations found for this search....The airport is a worry though.

@Torment

Really, it is an idea to check an area out with a HF meter if you can. Especially if you are planning living there.
Bear in mind that for ages, T-Mobile was npt co-operating with OFCOM and supplying information about locations of their phone masts.

Also, look at the planning applications for local councils for phone masts.
You may find they have them down as Telecmmunications - or as our local council has done as 'radio transmitters'/ makes them sound harmless. Which they are not.

Also , bear in mind that the MOA Mobile Operators Association produces its document for the local councils. Contact the MOA and ask WHO in the local council[s] near where you are, or where you are thinking of going, has a copy. Simply ring up and ask that person to email you a copy of the documents.
Note - You are entitled to a copy. The MOA indeed encourages it. There is no secrecy and no reason why you might not have a copy.

The TETRA masts are not necessarily shown on the UK Sitefinder website.

Regarding RADAR
Turn an AM radio off station and see if you get a bleeping every 10 or 12 seconds.

Am a few months late to this topic, but as you will see from this site, there are many antennae in the area of Birr.
You need to check this site for masts in Ireland.

There is also a garda/police station in the town, which won't be listed on this site. Haven't been to area myself but seriously doubt it is suitable, increasingly very few places in Ireland where no coverage is available.
