Yes, Samsung plan to have 5G in place by 2020. Apparently, the need to download whole movies in a matter of seconds is of paramount importance, and the survival of the human race, and of nature, can take a hike.

Except...
It's mostly a load of unsubstantiated nonsense (and non-science) - but then what else do you expect from the Daily Mail.

Basically, the technology doesn't exist and even if it did, it couldn't work. Not to say they won't try and "improve" on 4G, because for a lot of people - despite phone-mast saturation - that doesn't work for them either.

ericgeneric,
Probably just an attempt to artificially ramp up expectations and stock value. Smartphone market is becoming saturated so the industry will be forced to "invent" something new to hype.
In one word: Vaporware.

It looks that way, Henrik. As I said, "the technology doesn't exist and even if it did, it couldn't work", so the likely reason for the announcement would be something like stock value or reassuring shareholders.

This isnt something you need to worry about for many years and hopefully there will be more regulations and research available when it does come. Currently in 2013 we do not 'technically' even have 4g yet. We call LTE and such 4g but the speeds are like 2-12mbps. 4g should be closer to 100mbps but the technology isnt even close at this time.
