the companies of mobile phones install masts camouflaged into trees and palm trees
the local pressure paralyzes the construction of one of these structures in Xàbia the manufacturers of antennas of movable telephony have worsened the
talent to construct structures that are integrated in the surroundings and avoid the local rejection.
They make them in form of tree, cactus or bell tower, but in Xàbia the camouflage is useless, since the neighbors of Toscal have prevented the installation of
a "palm".

ISABEL FERRANDO/XÀBIA
Its neighbor has planted an enormous palm in the garden? Then it fíjese well, because it is possible that it is not a palm, but one of the hundreds of
camouflaged antennas of movable telephony that proliferate more and more in Spain. Before the social alarm which they caused years ago this type of
facilities many manufacturers chose to offer to the operating camouflaged antennas so that they integrated themselves in his surroundings.
The problem is complex. All the users of movable telephony demand and better cover more, but very few, practically no, are arranged to have an antenna
of this type near their houses. For this reason, in 1992, a American company, Larson, proposed "to hide" the antenna in a tree and since then they proliferate
this type of facilities, much more expensive that the conventional ones but with better acceptance. Thus, there are models that resemble pines, palms, cactus, chimneys, cornices, bell towers and even lights, with different heights and measures according to the necessities.
And they are difficult to distinguish but when the neighbors notice themselves of which they are, all they do not accept it. It is what this week has
happened in Xàbia. The residents of the Toscal urbanization observed how a neighbor initiated works in his parcel and thought that a swimming pool was
going to become. But Monday, saw in the ground which seemed a palm of plastic, 30 meters of height and with a base of meter and means of wide.
It was an antenna. They called to the Local Police and they interposed denunciations. In order to avoid that the works continued, they blocked the crane that
had to install it with cars, and obtained yesterday what they persecuted: the paralyzation of works and the opening of a municipal file so that the deposited
thing in the parcel retires. Without license According to it could state the Local Police, the company in charge of the installation, with seat in Seville, lacked
work license. It had only negotiated a substantial contraprestación with the proprietor of the land. In addition, the city-planning norms of Xàbia prevent the installation of any structure, nonbuilding, of more than nine meters. So, at the request of the police and of the municipal work inspector, the workers chose to leave yesterday with the crane. But the preoccupation of the neighbors has not finished. They think that the place is not adapted by the great density of population, think that the electromagnetic contamination harms to them, and what they fear more is that some other antenna camouflaged in form of pine,
cornice or chimney.
