Residents furious after approval for phone mast near schools
United Kingdom Created: 21 Jul 2009
FURIOUS residents have accused a council of putting children’s lives at risk after it approved controversial plans for a phone mast near four Crewe schools.

Cheshire East Council’s Southern Planning Board has granted mobile phone giant O2 permission to erect a 10-metre high mast at the junction of Readesdale Avenue and Valley Road.

O2 bosses insist the mast is vital to provide 2G and 3G mobile broadband coverage to the Crewe and Wistaston area.

But residents, who have led a year-long campaign against the scheme, say they are appalled at councillors’ decision amid health and safety fears.
