Mobile phone mast plans rejected
United Kingdom Created: 4 Mar 2010
Plans for a 50ft high mobile phone mast in east Hull have been rejected by city councillors.

The proposal by mobile phone firm O2 was earmarked for a site on Holderness Road near Drayton Close.

But the scheme attracted huge numbers of objections from residents as well as staff and pupils at nearby Thanet Primary School.

At this afternoon's planning committee, councillors voted to refuse permission for the mast after claiming it would harm the local amenity and pose a potential road hazard through two equipment cabinets being proposed next to the roadside.

Councillor John Hewitt said the site was simply in the wrong place because it was in the middle of a heavily-populated area and within a few hundred yards of two schools.
